Blue eyeshadows, eyeliners and blue mascaras are not for everyone, but you can try to make it work! I know many girls who dislike blue mascara and prefer to deal with black mascara only. It has to do with skin undertones. The cool colors (like blue) fit better cool skin undertones and warm colors fit better warm skin undertones. Black fits everybody!
I never believed in cold and warm skin undertones, because both cold and warm colors fit me well. Recently I discovered there’s a third type – neutral undertone that fits both cool and warm colors, which probably I am!
Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara 70 Blue Night is a blue-grey shade which I like. I’m a big fan of grey mascaras because my eyes are grey. Blue-grey is okay for me too! I was always fascinated by blue eyeshadows, eyeliners and mascaras. But I used to apply blue eyeshadows all over the upper lids and even under eyebrows… and it looked terrible! So I decided that blue eyeshadows and eyeliners are not for me. Over time, I realized that less is better!
Chanel Le Volume de Chanel mascaras have a thicker texture than Yves Saint Laurent Vinyl Couture Mascaras. Honestly, I add a little bit of water in those mascaras that feel too thick for me or when they dry out. That’s how I do it: add a little bit of water, mix with applicator and leave it for a one day. The next day I mix it with applicator again – and it’s ready to use! I know that professional makeup artists wouldn’t approve that – they add a special product when their mascaras dry out. I just don’t like to add more chemicals to my mascara.
To complete my look, I used Yves Saint Laurent Shocking Eyeliner Effet Faux Cils 2 Majorelle Blue. It’s a bright blue liquid eyeliner with a very sharp auto-refilling applicator. I find it quite easy to apply: start from making a thin line by applying it almost at eyelashes, then make the line as thick as you prefer, but don’t over-apply it! Before applying the eyeliner, put some light blue or bright blue eyeshadow on your upper lids and under your eyes (thin line, nothing crazy!). And don’t forget about under eyebrows highlighter. I used bright blue color and light gold color as highlighter from Yves Saint Laurent Eyeshadow Palette 11 Ballets Russes.
In my opinion, bright blue and turquoise eyeliners look very provocative and stand out even more than black or brown eyeliners. For that reason, if you choose to wear blue eyeshadows, eyeliners or blue mascara, your lips should look more discreet. Beige, peach or light pink are appropriate colors. For this look, I used Cle de Peau Beaute Radiant Lip Gloss 3 Charm.
Of course, you can use bright red lipstick to create that ‘vintage’ look, but it can be tricky. It’s gonna show that you are trying too hard! And you don’t want that to happen! You wanna create a young fresh look without showing how much time you actually spend on it. To see an example of ‘blue eyes – red lips’ look please read an article here. I believe that blue colors can work for you if applied tastefully! What do you think about blue colors? Write in the comments, please!
